  27. It seems that the next 680x0 Amiga (project Walker) will give, for 600ú,
  28. 2Mb ChipRam, 68EC030 40Mhz (good as much as full 68030 IMHO) with 4Mb FastRam,
  29. CDROM x4 speed as standard (FINALLY!), HardDisk, fast serial port, fast
  30. parallel port, probably MIDI port, OS 3.2, and it'll be cheaply expandable
  31. thanks to its local-bus, allowing PCI, ZorroIII/IV slots very easily, till
  32. making it become a tower case (just adding a piece in the middle(!))

  34. From the photos I've seen, it should be possible to use it also as radio-clock
  35. and vacuum-cleaner ;-)

  37. It's a very nice Amiga for sure though, with a look that could be discussed,
  38. but is surely original enough to attract the attention of "not computer expert"
  39. people.

  41. What sucks is the AGA chipset, I hope they'll give dualport chipram: they would
  42. understand after how wise this choice will have been, even more than the CdRom.

  44. What sucks++ is that AT is not *capable* to make innovative custom chips
  45. (they can say it's not possible, but I know that every console producer makes
  46. custom chips). So, being not capable to make them, the PowerAmiga is destined
  47. to be another PC clone, with just a different CPU (PowerPC: btw, I bought a
  48. book and studied it, and I'm very disappointed: IT SUCKS, all the other RISCs
  49. are better, starting from the old and cheap Transputers) and a different OS.
  50. But for me, a games maker, the OS is not important for the final software.

  61. If AT wants this shit from PowerAmiga, then IMHO the *last* Amiga will be the
  62. 680x0 and AGA based ones. The PowerAmiga will be a PC with just another CPU.
  63. I bought the PowerPC book (105 US dollars!) because I was enthusiast to code
  64. for the PowerAmiga, now I got the sensation it'll be like programming a PC.

  66. The A1000/A500 and A2000 were dream computers IMO because of their custom
  67. chips and architecture, not because of the lame 1.0/1.1/1.2 OS.
  68. I'll keep my 68060 Amiga for *development*, I'll create and test algorithms,
  69. graphics, sounds on my Amiga, but if this PowerAmiga is that anonymous
  70. machine, I'll support only old Amigas and, before I support a PowerAmiga with
  71. no market, I'll prefer to support PC; the same thing with a different CPU and
  72. an alive market.

  80. facts: the PowerAmiga will born with much more *bad* problems than any quality.

  83. I program the PC. The PowerPC CPU *sucks bigtime*, if I've to learn another
  84. CPU, why should I learn PowerPC and not 80x86 that gives some food back?

  88. For being "idealist", I wasted more than 1 year of fulltime work on the Amiga,
  89. to make my first commercial game and live with it, and I got only 1549 UKP,
  90. still believing in what I was doing, to live the hunger (I've to mantain
  91. myself, I am not lucky as many students) in sight of a future for my Amiga.
